Rosettenville’s shoe doctor

Repairing shoes to help his family.

ABRAHAM Ndebele (55) from Rosettenville started being a cobbler from the age of five years until to date.

He is the father of four and his family depends on his skills in cobbling to keep taking care of their needs. Abraham calls his little space in the corner of Geranium and Main Street the Shoe Hospital because every shoe that is brought to him has its own crisis and it needs his attention.

Residents rely on and trust him with their shoes as some leave it for days so that their shoes can be properly fixed. He extended his services to surrounding areas like Turffontein, Booysens and Bellavista since June this year.

“I used to work for a company a long time ago, but I was not committed to that job because my mind was on shoe repairing. So, I worked there for two years and after that I finally followed what I love doing and what I am good at.

“Some people think I am a fool when they see me repairing shoes every day but that’s not the case. I love what I do. In the next five years I want to see myself owning a shoe store and having people working for me,” said Abraham.

SHOE MAKER: Abraham Ndebele wants to keep his family together and that’s why he tries to make money in this business, even if he works long hours.
