A 33-YEAR-OLD MAN was left nursing his wounds after he received a beating at a local party allegedly because of his relationship with a widow.
He was allegedly attacked with knives, pangas and sticks by the widow’s former in-laws. It’s believed the widow’s in-laws don’t want him to have a relationship with the widow. The man, who is from around the South of Johannesburg, said he was at a party on September 29, where he and his girlfriend (the widow) were set to enjoy themselves. As they were in the midst of the party three men from his girlfriend’s in-laws came and seated themselves next to him.
“I did not suspect any foul play. These men kept on showering me with booze, then asked me to accompany them to the nearest bottle store. But the mood changed. While on our way, one man asked among the others ‘where is the gun?’
“As I tried to flee from them I was captured and beaten.
“I thought I was going to die. What was done to me is inhumane and maybe they thought I was dead. I didn’t go to the hospital because they told me they are not finished with me. These people have connections all over, so what terrifies me is if I can report the matter to the police, I can be ratted out,” he told the COURIER.
All he wants now is to end his relationship with his girlfriend that started four years ago because he believes if he continues with the relationship he will end up dead.
When the COURIER contacted his girlfriend she said, “My heart is also broken but I honestly believe he wasn’t beaten by my former in-laws. I don’t know who did but it’s not them because they love him a lot.”
Moffat View SAPS communications officer Jeff Phora said, “No one has reported or opened a case of assault. The victim can come to the police station and we will help him.”
