GRADE 11 Nova Pioneer Ormonde learner, Lesedi Mnguni, 16, is excited to have been named as one of the top 20 learners of the Allan Grey Entrepreneurship Challenge (AGE18).
The Allan Grey Entrepreneurship Challenge is an annual competition, providing high school learners from across the country a chance to improve and showcase their entrepreneurial skills and thinking by taking part in micro-challenges.
The top three learners of the AGE18 will be announced on October 11, at the Gold Reef City. They will get the opportunity to visit Silicon Valley in the USA for a week-long trip. Lesedi hopes to be named as one of the top three students but is extremely proud of herself for making the top 20.
This year’s challenges were spread over six weeks and were divided into different themes, including social enterprises, transport, healthcare, artificial intelligence, climate change and technology. In order to cater for a range of learners between Grades 8 to 12, each challenge had varied levels of difficulty. The more difficult levels naturally meant the learner would score more points for the challenge completed.
Lesedi gave each challenge her all, doing research, conducting interviews with other entrepreneurs, health workers, teachers and her fellow peers in order to produce a detailed presentation for her weekly challenge. “The challenges needed one to go out and ask different entrepreneurs about challenges that they come across in their businesses. My mother has been a driving force behind my achievement, she has been inspiring me, telling me not to give up. But I am optimistic I will be in the top three,” said Lesedi.
