Pre-school children put up with grime
Nursery needs immediate response regarding a property that is creating a health hazard.
LITTLE Bambi Daycare and pre-school can’t keep up with the dirt and smell that comes out of the abandoned property at Ferreira Street in Turffontein.
The property has been a source of problem since 2016. Daycare principal, Soraya Davids, claims Ward 124 councillor and the municipality demolished the house, and that since its demolition, the property has been turned into a dumping, smoking and crime spot.
The smell makes it difficult for the daycare to carry out its daily activities as they ought to. Davids told COURIER the matter had on several occasion been reported to the councillor.
“This is a health hazard. With this smell, our learners can’t concentrate, and this frustrates and upsets me. “Something must be done to resolve this matter for the sake of the children,” said Davids.
Ward 124 councillor Mongameli Mnyameni told COURIER there are about three vacant properties in Turffontein which are a source of problems for the residents.
“I have asked an inspector to check on the empty property in Ferreira Street to find out who owns it. I am still waiting for a response. Ward 124 local members of African National Congress (ANC) have been cleaning up the property now and again, but the residents dump garbage and waste and create a health hazard for the nursery,” said Mnyameni.
