Keeping safe over the festive season
“When you are getting ready to leave for the holidays, advise your family or friends what time it is, which taxi rank you are leaving from and what your expected time of arrival will be.”

AT the October meeting, domestic workers who attended Mondeor Community Policing Forum (CPF) Domestic Watch learnt some safety issues from Michael Bailey (SOS Security) and Sgt Shirley Gqoba (Mondeor Police Station).
“During the festive season, even more so, criminals are looking to make easy money. So don’t walk in the street while talking on your cellphone or using earphones, be cautious. Don’t take shortcuts through fields to get to the taxi rank or your destination. Be aware at all times and if you need to draw cash, rather go to a store like Checkers, where you can buy a grocery item and draw cash at the till at the same time. It’s much safer than drawing cash from an ATM,” said Bailey.
“When you are getting ready to leave for the holidays, advise your family or friends what time it is, which taxi rank you are leaving from and what your expected time of arrival will be. You can’t think everyone in the same taxi as you are as trustworthy as you are.
“Don’t use your cellphone while travelling and make sure to hide your hard earned money on you. When the taxi stops at a service station, find a quiet safe place and make the calls you need to do then. Update your family or friends where you are and let them know if you will still be there about the time you originally told them or if you may now be delayed. It’s very important to keep people informed,” said Bailey.
Michelle Pelser, coordinator Mondeor CPF, thanked Bailey for his informative talk and also took the time to thank Mondeor Primary School for providing the transport for the domestic workers each month and for the driver, Petrus Mapetla.
“Every month our domestic workers are picked up by Petrus and dropped off again after the meeting, thank you,” she added.
The domestic workers were informed of the Christmas lunch taking place on November 15 at Rietvlei Zoo Farm from 10am to 2pm.
“There will be no Tuesday meeting that week,” Pelser advised.
