Jasgrey units restored after being razed by fire

Residents finally got their homes repaired.

JASGREY Court residents are all excited to return to their units after a blazing fire destroyed their belongings on September 6, 2018.

About 16 families were affected by the fire leaving the residents to take temporary occupation at the South Hills Recreation Centre for three months. While at the centre, the residents depended on food donations and feeding schemes.

But prior to Christmas Day, the residents couldn’t hold their excitement when they were told they could return to their units to enjoy Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Resident Hendrina Croukamp said: “We are very happy to return to our homes. This really means a lot to us as the residents of Jasgrey. Everything has been repaired and well-structured. All I can say is that this is wonderful and pleasing news.”

A faulty electrical connection is believed to have caused the fire.

“To all the people who have helped us while we were at the centre, please accept our sincere gratitude,” said Hendrina.

Ward 57 councillor Faeeza Chame confirmed the damaged units had been repaired. “The units are as good as new. As a bonus, the units have now been fitted with titles. I was not happy with the workmanship of plumbing but was promised this would be fixed. What makes me happier is that everyone was back to their units before Christmas,” said Chame.
