An outreach drug and alcohol awareness project by Moffat View SAPS

Members of the public were educated about the dangers of alcohol and drugs through flyers.

MOFFAT View SAPS in conjunction with the Gauteng Department of Community Safety and local pastors issued flyers warning members of the public about alcohol and drugs on January 11.

The issuing of flyers started at Diaz Mall where it was explained to shoppers that drugs can negatively affect all aspects of a person’s life and leave one’s family and community with a bitter burden at the end.

The interaction opened a healthy way of communication between SAPS and the community where a number of those receiving information asked questions.

Moffat View SAPS communication officer Jeff Phora said: “Initiatives like these are very important. People should be warned about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. I’m happy to see people welcoming us with love and respect.”

SAPS went on to visit one of Rosettenville’s brothel and issued more flyers there.

“Our objective and aim with the outreach was a success. However, personally, I would have preferred if we did this during school holidays. This initiative was also aimed at reaching children to break the silence about abuse,” said Capt Phora.
