Leaves spoil swimming pleasure for the Van der Schyffs

According to Schyff, a tall tree opposite her house is the main reason why her pool is always dirty.

JOYCE van der Schyff (65) from Crown Gardens is at her wit’s end with leaves that keep on messing up her swimming pool.

According to Schyff, a tall tree opposite her house is the main reason why her pool is always dirty.

She says when there are heavy winds, the leaves are blown into her pool. This has resulted in her family having to go elsewhere for a swim despite the fact that in their own home they have their own pool.

This problem has persisted since 2010. She claims she has contacted City Parks several times regarding the matter, but her complaint has not been attended to.

Van der Schyff told the COURIER: “My swimming pool used to be clean and beautiful but since the tree opposite my house grew to this height, all I do is clean these leaves. This does not bother my neighbours as it bothers me. We are in the summer season. My family wants to swim but they can’t because of the mess. All I want is to see this tree cut down to size,” said Van der Schyff.

Another resident who didn’t want to be named said: “The tree is big and really the leaves are ruining Van der Schyff’s pool. Also, this tree is a hiding spot for thugs. People get mugged here. Something must be done with this tree.”

The COURIER requested a comment from City Parks and is still waiting for a reply on the matter.
