Boulder-fall waiting to happen

"Should these boulders finally roll down the slope, it will surely cause serious injury or, possibly, death."

There is a potential fall of boulders waiting to happen at any time at Comaro Road and Rooigras Avenue in Bassonia.

The massive boulders are not secured to the ground and the earth beneath it is eroding and softening with all the recent rain. I’m really concerned that gravity will take its toll soon, and the lives of everyone in the proximity of the roads will be in danger.

The steep slope upon which the boulders lie is right next to the road. This is a busy road that attracts runners, cyclists, passers-by and an endless stream of motorists daily. Should these boulders finally roll down the slope, it will surely cause serious injury or, possibly, death.

What’s more, it will also cause habitat damage, as these boulders form part of a beautiful area that’s inhabited by dassies, meerkats and various other species.

It would mean a lot to the community if the council or responsible authorities can take a look at this problem and hopefully reassure us of our safety soon.

COMARO ROAD: The boulders atop this slope could create massive damage if they were to roll down.
