Tree on Steenbok Avenue, Bassonia poses danger to motorists

A HUGE tree that was hit by lightning many years ago still has half of it left which hangs over a blind bend on Steenbok Avenue, Bassonia.“I don’t know how many years it’s been like this and, quite honestly, I’ve given up on reporting it to the relevant city departments. The whole stand is an overgrown mess,” said a resident of Steenbok Avenue. “After I saw the article in the Comaro CHRONICLE (February 13, page 3, Overgrown trees a worry for motorists) I thought I’d also try to get something done via the paper.
“I do know there are feral cats who live on this stand and some people have complained, but I don’t have a problem with them. A woman comes twice a day to feed them,” she added.
Another problem is the motorists who speed down Soetdoring Avenue towards the shopping centre.
“They either drive right over the traffic circle or hardly slow down and you really do put your life into your own hands coming out of Steenbok Avenue,” she said.
According to the woman, rumble strips were put into Soetdoring Avenue to slow motorists down, but it hasn’t helped one bit. “I do feel any shrubs or trees on the corner should be kept neatly trimmed so a driver can see clearly,” she said.
