Jackson Drift residents join forces to get shack painted
Gogo gets her shack painted.
MONGAMELI Arosi, one of the community leaders of Ward 122 and community members joined hands in support of painting Evelin Kheswa’s (60) shack in Jackson Drift informal settlement on March 27.
According to Mongameli, painting and cleaning for the elderly is one of the initiatives they are busy with in the settlement.
“We started this initiative because of the dilemma the elderly find themselves in facing poverty and unemployment. Therefore by lending an extra pair of hands helps the elderly not worry about buying cleaning and painting products.
“This isn’t something that we do once in a while but more frequently. If we make a point of it that they are well taken care of, we will all stay blessed,” explained Mongameli.
Evelin’s shack was unbearable therefore Mongameli organised a group of individuals who were keen to assist with the painting of Evelin’s two-roomed shack.
“Evelin’s shack took us three hours to fine-tune it. What pleased me was seeing Evelin’s smiling face after we finished painting.

“Now Evelin will sleep happily knowing that she has a fresh and nice smell all around her,” added Mongameli.
Evelin said she is pleased to see people coming out to help her.
“My shack was a mess but now I feel as if I live in a brick house all thanks to Mongameli and members of the community. Now I can sleep in peace without any bad smells,” said Evelin.
