Troublesome traffic circle in Robertsham gets attention

If you take a look at the structure of this traffic cycle, there are initial markings where it was supposed to be erected. However, according to Collen, shoddy and negligent erection of the traffic circle was done.

JOBURG Road Agency (JRA) and Ward 55 Clr Rashieda Landis visited the worrisome traffic circle at the intersection of Kimberley Minor Road and Harry Street, Robertsham, on April 2.

This oversight visit was prompted by the complaint from Collen Bakos, a resident in the area. He said the motorists have no regard for the traffic circle.

“I have been in this area for over 50 years and the disrespect of the motorists for this traffic circle is unbelievable. Three serious accidents have happened here in the past because drivers just zoom in past the traffic circle, especially those who are travelling in Kimberley Minor Road towards Alamein Road and Harry Street. They don’t reduce speed towards it and they don’t go around it, they pass on top of it. I think only speed humps can solve this problem,” explained Collen.

If you take a look at the structure of this traffic circle, there are initial markings where it was supposed to be erected. However, according to Collen, shoddy and negligent erection of the traffic circle was done.

JRA technician Calvin Khoza said he will escalate the matter to his operation manager. “The behaviour of the drivers passing here needs to change, they need to obey the rules of the road. There are other mechanisms we can put in place to remedy the situation. Maybe a three-way stop can help. However, as I said before, I will engage my ops manager on this,” he said.

Landis said she needs to see a proper report and inspection on this matter because the lives of the residents and other motorists are at risk.

“JRA needs to come back to me with a time frame as to when they will fix this problem. This is urgent, I need answers as soon as possible. Residents will be updated about the proceedings,” she said.

Also, the overgrown grass between M1 and Kimberley Minor Road is frustrating the residents in that area, but the councillor is engaging with the relevant people to deal with it.
