New board for City Power

The new board is chaired by Lerato Nage, who replaces Lael Bethlehem who announced her departure at the AGM.

THE City of Johannesburg has announced the appointment of the new members joining the board of City Power. The announcement was made at the power utility’s recent AGM.

The new board is chaired by Lerato Nage, who replaces Lael Bethlehem who announced her departure at the AGM. Bethlehem served on the City Power board for two years.

Nage ascends to this position after serving diligently on the previous board for two years.

“We welcome the appointment of the new board and are excited in that most of them, including the new chairperson Nage, are returning. This will definitely ensure stability of the organisation and continuity in the work that we have already started. They all bring talent, expertise and energy needed to guide us as we embark on our VUCA 2022 strategy to turn around the affairs of City Power,” said chief executive officer Lerato Setshedi.

“I am grateful for the opportunity and confidence shown in me to continue serving on the board of City Power, albeit in a different role of the chairperson. I am humbled to lead a team of talented men and women who are ready to support the executive led by Setshedi in continuing with the implementation of the VUCA 2022 strategy to return the institution to profitability and set it on a new course to embrace renewable energy and the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The strategy is underpinned by the critical success factors of excellent leadership, improved business and operating model and ultimately an improved financial position of the entity. City Power is facing many challenges that include the R3-billion overdraft, but I am happy about the plans by the CEO and his team and the commitment by the executive mayor and his executive to support us in our quest to fix City Power,” said Nage.

Alongside Nage, the returning board members who served on the previous board are Dennis Hunt, Douglas Gibson, Mandla Seopela and Dr Hlayisekani Chewane.

The new members who have just been appointed are Bongani Mathebula, Baaresa Tjia, Neo Kganakga and Thabo Mofokeng.

Those who are retiring are Lael Bethlehem (former chairperson), Makgatho Mello and Noxolo Kahlana-Mcubuse.
