Meet the cat whisperer

Ben loves taking care of cats.

TO some people abandoned cats and dogs are not much of a concern.

However, cat-lover Ben Lukhele has been taking care of abandoned cats at his workplace, The Hill, at the Pikitup Garden Site since 2014.

All this started when one resident came to dump waste and dumped a helpless cat as well. Lukhele then decided to take care of the cat, but as weeks passed, cats from nowhere started coming in.

Lukhele said the number of cats grew and he opted to build each cat a shelter. The challenge in all of this was feeding them. When people came in to dump their rubbish, they would ask whose cats they were. People started donating cat food and much more to support the cats.

Lukhele said he would not be able to take care of these cats on his own.

“People are very supportive of me taking care of these cats and it isn’t an issue at my workplace with my colleagues or bosses. If I’m not around and it’s time for the cats to be fed, my colleagues help out and that makes me happy,” said Lukhele.
