WARD 57 councillor Faeeza Chame celebrated Father’s Day at Avalon Cemetery in Soweto in remembrance of her father.

According to Chame, it is a family tradition to celebrate her father every year. Her father, the late Jerry Jordaan, died at the age of 60 in 1997.

“I believe that our parents must not only be taken care of while they are still alive but in death as well. For the past 22 years every Father’s Day we go to his grave site as a tribute to my father,” she said.

When the family arrive at the graveyard they clean the tombstone and reminisce about good times they shared with their father.

“I always feel very close to him when I am at his graveside. What I also noticed is that a lot of people are visiting Avalon on Father’s Day to still pay respect to their departed loved ones,” she added.

Chame encourages people to celebrate their fathers even if it’s not Father’s Day.
