Informative breakfast for seniors
“This is what this breakfast is about, as well as receiving important information. You can also meet new friends,” added Michelle.
A SENIORS on the Go breakfast was held at Golden Falls Spur in Columbine Square on August 20 with guest speaker Linda Goodenough from Fidelity ADT National present.
The seniors enjoyed a hearty Spur breakfast with tea or coffee, sponsored by Spur and Sasol Garage Columbine.
Assistant organiser of the breakfast Joy Boswell handed out lovely home-made birthday cards to the seniors who had celebrated their birthdays in August and to those who would be celebrating theirs in September and October.
The coordinator, Michelle Pelser, chatted to the seniors about what they needed to be aware of in their areas concerning crime.
“Please don’t encourage beggars who come to your house gates asking for food. They could be trying to find out information about when you’ll be at home or out and looking for easy access points into your property. Rather say from the house that you can’t help them.
“There is also a lot of crime in the area where garden and driveway gates are being derailed. Make sure to lock all your security gates while you are at home and carry a panic button close to you. Make sure you are linked to your security company. If you feel threatened in any way, phone them to come and check whether everything is fine,” said Michelle.
“We have already received 16 recipes from some of you. Please remember to let us have your favourite recipes, so they can all be put into a book. Our book swap is going well. If you have read a book and don’t want it any more, bring it along to the breakfast morning to donate, or swap it for another one you haven’t read.”
Guest speaker Linda also shared about her life journey and where it has brought her. She then went to each table asking if anyone would like to share an important memory of their own. A few spoke about their weddings, memorable holidays, having their children and some talked about how they had moved to SA from overseas.
The morning was enjoyed by everyone, with the seniors socialising among reach other.
“This is what this breakfast is about, as well as receiving important information. You can also meet new friends,” added Michelle.
