Service delivery an issue in Naturena

Residents demand a soccer field.

NATURENA residents are begging for a soccer field which they’ve been waiting for since 2009.

According to residents, they used to have a soccer field but it was demolished to pave the way for a housing project.

However, residents rejected the project and removed the structure which was set by the project, claiming they wanted a soccer field so that children could stay off the streets.

One of the residents, Zakes Mabote, said they have many soccer teams in the area but they lack facilities to play in.

Residents claim this piece of land was supposed to be turned into a soccer field.

“We play away games that cost us money. This is a great suburb and things like infrastructure should be put in place.

“Children play in the streets and I don’t think it is safe for them. If fields were available it would be much better,” said Mabote.

Residents agree that service delivery is an issue in many areas, but they feel it wouldn’t be that difficult to put in goal posts and grade the area where the soccer field should be.

Mabote said Ward 119 councillor Mangaliso Ngwenya doesn’t respond when they call him.

“We are tired of fighting for the impossible. We only need a soccer field and our children will be happy,” said Mabote.

Ngwenya responded: “If they were clued up on Johannesburg issues they would know that on August 22 there was an attempt to relieve Johannesburg mayor Herman Mashaba through a motion of no confidence. This comes after people from different wards and throughout the city complained about service delivery and other vital issues under his leadership.”

In the past few months, some residents of Naturena took their frustrations regarding service delivery to the streets.

This is what people said on Facebook:

Merle Jewill: Yeah well, if service delivery costs were paid maybe it would’ve been a whole different ball game.

Wendy Hunter: Ffs

Paul Fletcher: Protest, then vote ANC! Protest, then vote ANC!

And so it goes on and on. It will never stop.
