Believers Care Society (BCS) offers free course to NPOs/NGOs

BCS would like to encourage NPOs/NGOs to take advantage of this rare opportunity, especially those that are not currently funded and would like to strengthen their project management skills.

BELIEVERS Care Society (BCS) is inviting staff members of young, growing, community-based NPOs/NGOs to apply for a free skills development opportunity.

BCS’s objective is to enrol 54 members of staff from 27 registered, emerging community-based NPOs in a Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) accredited core skills training programme.

The programme provides a Further Education and Training Certificate (FETC) course on project management, at National Qualifications Framework (NQF) Level 4, with SAQA.ID-50080.

The programme aims to improve the quality of services rendered to communities by emerging NPOs/NGOs and enables organisations to function as a professional body.

Furthermore, the programme equips NPOs for effective resource mobilisation and efficient use of their resources.

In addition to the programme offering, organisations will have access to a mentorship programme that ensures translation of the course content into the governance and programme delivery of NPOs/NGOs. This project is implemented in partnership with the DG Murray Trust (DGMT).

The duration of the entire project is six months and includes a project management course over five months, with classes twice a week on Fridays between 1pm and 4pm and on Saturdays between 8am and 12 noon; a one-month mentorship programme post-completion of the course and a certificate of competence will be issued at the end of the course to participants who successfully completed the course.

Registration is now officially open and only 27 organisations will be accepted, with two staff members per organisation.

Selection criteria

One must be a member of staff at a registered NPO/NGO located in Johannesburg, preferably between the ages of 18 and 35 years, those above 35 years old will be considered.

Proof of NPO/NGO registration is required and a letter from them on their letterhead indicating that they have appointed/nominated staff to attend the course. Copy of ID or valid permit (non-SA citizens), proof of residence, previous qualification(s) and a short CV.

Classes will commence on October 11.

They will take place at the development centre, 85 High Street, Turffontein, and at 30 Mandy Road, Reuven.

This course is offered at no cost to the NPO/NGO. BCS would like to encourage NPOs/NGOs to take advantage of this rare opportunity, especially those that are not currently funded and would like to strengthen their project management skills.
