Karabo Cicero from Naturena makes his parents proud as he goes to the UK
The young man, who plays for Robertsham Callies United, said football is everything to him and such opportunities are rare.
KARABO Cicero from Naturena has been selected from over 300 players to attend the United Kingdom Pro Academy residential training programme.
The young man, who plays for Robertsham Callies United, said football is everything to him and such opportunities are rare.
The Pro Academy staged a talent identification clinic in Africa giving young and upcoming players an opportunity to showcase their skills and to give successful individuals an opportunity to go overseas.
The all-round striker aims to impress in the UK to get a contract which will cement him into the football industry.
He’s set to leave on November 30 and comes back in January 2020 before school reopens.
Top scorer
He began playing football at the age of six in Eldorado Park and he scored goals in every match, which made him the all-time goal top scorer of the club.
His fathe, Charles Cicero, saw the potential his son had and with few opportunities in Eldorado, he decided to take his son to Callies.
“He got trained to the level where he was now able to play with bigger boys than him while at first, he couldn’t. He is a complete striker and I love the way he thinks in the field of play,” said Charles.
Been to other trials before?
The 16-year-old told the COURIER he tried out with Jomo Cosmo and Bidvest Wits before, but he was unlucky.
According to his father, there’re several teams which are mentoring his movements and he believes after the UK training many teams will be after his signature.
“I know he can play. What he needs now is the European mentality and he will be one of the best strikers South Africa has ever introduced.
“I would be happy if I can see him playing for a professional team one day be it overseas or here at home,” said Cicero.
Karabo’s strength
Karabo said what makes him stand out is the ability to play with both feet and his tactical awareness in moving when his team attack.
“I love what I do and I know what do. I do see myself being a professional player one day.
“Representing Bafana Bafana is my desire and I believe that’s every aspiring player’s dream,” said Karabo.
