WATCH: Elderly people in South Hills finally receive title deeds, 24 years later

MMC Mlungisi Mabaso gives 72 title deeds.

Some goodwill and cheer went a very long way on Valentine’s Day as the MMC for Housing, Mlungisi Mabaso, gave 72 title deeds to South Hills housing project beneficiaries on February 14.

The MMC was joined by councillor Faeeza Chame in handing out the title deeds to the elderly people who applied since 1996.

Mabaso told the beneficiaries that this is not the last time they will be seeing him.

According to Mabaso, about 5 726 units are expected to be built, through the project. The units are comprised of RDP, bonded and affordable social units.

“Over 90 per cent of houses will fall within the financial sector charter defined for affordable housing and will, therefore, contribute significantly towards the transformation objectives of the government.

“Integration on the project is not only intended from a housing topology and affordable marketing perspective, however, we will provide the opportunity to integrate with the existing urban structure that spends across various socio-economic, racial and political spheres,” said Mabaso.

The MMC promised the beneficiaries that he will come back to do an oversight visit on the units.

“We can’t give people houses which are not in good condition. I will make it point that I come back to check the status of these units,” said Mabaso.
