
On Monday, February 24, the JMPD members received information of a suspect who was in possession of a white Ford ranger, that was stolen from the Ford Company in Silverton Pretoria in January 2020.
According to Wayne Minnaar, Spokesperson, Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department, the vehicle was spotted driving on the M1 South and was stopped tactfully near the Booysens off-ramp, the vehicle had a fake Lesotho registration number affixed and also a fake license disc.
The VIN number was checked and it was still original, and it was confirmed with Ford SA risk manager that the vehicle was stolen during a robbery at the Ford Company.
The suspect tried to bribe members with R1000 and he was immediately placed under arrest for possession of a stolen vehicle and for bribery.
The Vin number was still in tack but the registration number had been changed, it was discovered that the suspect is part of a syndicate who are stealing vehicles from the Ford plant and he had photos of the vehicles which was already taken across the border on his phone.
The scene was processed by and all relevant parties attended the scene.
The suspect was detained at Booysens Police Station and the exhibits were booked in at Aeroton Police Pound.
