Awards named after Nkabinde-Khawe given out at Premier’s Service Excellence Awards

Makhura congratulated all recipients for their selfless contributions towards improving the livelihoods of people in their own communities.

In keeping the memory of late Gauteng MEC of Social Development Thuliswa Nkabinde-Khawe alive, Gauteng Premier David Makhura has named four Premier’s Service Excellence Awards after the departed stalwart.

Makhura made this commitment during the provincial official’s funeral at Vereeniging City Hall in November last year.

He said in keeping her monumental legacy alive, the awards for Best Public Servant, Best-Performing Social Cluster Department, Best NPO and Best Community Development Project in Gauteng will be named after Nkabinde-Khawe, who demonstrated dedication and commitment to the people of Gauteng.

This commitment was realised on February 27 as the Gauteng Provincial Government hosted the annual Premier’s Service Excellence Awards at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, Johannesburg.

Addressing guests and nominees, Makhura said the awards are aimed at recognising and rewarding outstanding efforts in both the public and private sector within the Gauteng province.

“These awards recognise the active participation of the public and government officials in community development and advancing active citizenry in the province,” he added.

One of the recipients of the excellence awards was Believers Care Society, a non-profit organisation (NPO) based in Turffontein, Johannesburg, which won the Thuliswa Nkabinde-Khawe Best NPO Award.

A grateful Believers Care Society centre manager, Alexander Iheme, said he is thankful for this award. He wished to thank the premier and his team for creating such a wonderful platform towards recognising great work done by civil society organisations, departments and individuals for service to humanity and fulfilling the vision of Gauteng Province.

Makhura congratulated all recipients for their selfless contributions towards improving the livelihoods of people in their own communities.
