Naomi Moleme from Forest Hill shares her experience of Covid-19

Naomi Moleme from Forest Hill jetted off to China in 2017 to study her desired career and make something good out of it.

A young and energetic Paedology student who is studying with Southwest University in Chongqing shared her Coronavirus experience with the COURIER while she was still in China.

Naomi Moleme from Forest Hill jetted off to China in 2017 to study her desired career and make something good out of it.

The 21-year-old told COURIER she was having a ball and enjoying the new environment.

Being used to South African food she started to familiarise herself with China’s food and the culture. She said while being in China she started to make it her home and made new friends.

Corona broke out

She told the COURIER she learnt about the virus towards end of January and it terrified her.

“I thought it would pass, but the cases of Covid-19 kept on being reported and I just wanted to go home as soon as possible because I was scared. But, at school they kept on updating us and taking care of us,” said Naomi.

She said they were made to wear masks and prevented them from having visitors.

“China is taking this seriously because the measures they putting place is amazing. When I knew I was going I got excited even my parents were always sending messages. At the airport we were checked several times in and out of the plane,” said Naomi.

School

Naomi said the university was paying great attention to the safety and health of all international students and the necessary measures were taken to see to it the students and the staff are safe.

“We would get letters updating us on what’s happening. As a foreigner in China they were concerned about us and that made us not to be in a panic,” said Naomi.

Happenings

Naomi explained that most of the shopping centres started to close due to the spread of the virus and they were stopped from attending school. Subways were not functional as well.

Places that promoted crowds like cinemas, restaurant, shopping centres, and stores were closed.
