Councillor to continue helping people

Ward 124 councillor Mongameli Mnyameni wants to thank Joburg Water (JW) for their efforts to provide water to the people, especially informal settlements.
He said JW responded positively and they made sure that ablution facilities like mobile toilets were delivered to various informal settlements in ward 124.
“JoJo tanks were placed in these informal settlements (View, emaXhoseni, Wembley and Booysens).
“Unfortunately, in Booysens one JoJo tank was stolen by the residents who stay there. They emptied the water and stole it.
“Also in the same informal settlement, I organised Joburg Road Agency (JRA) to open the stormwater pipes because when it’s raining water floods that area and discharge water into people’s houses.
“Again the residents chased JRA away, saying they want jobs, so the work there has stopped,” explained Mnyameni.
He also mentioned that they are organising food parcels for those who are not working and living in informal settlements.
“Most people in these informal settlements are recyclers and that’s how they earn a living. However, because of the lockdown it is impossible to do so.
“I then spoke to social development department and MMC for Environment, Infrastructure and Services councillor Mpho Moerane to intervene and give food parcels to the people.

“The response from the people is positive. However, I have to emphasise that this is only for those people who are on chronic medication and the unemployed. Those who are working are not allowed to get these food parcels.
“On coronavirus, it is important that people must understand that this pandemic doesn’t choose race or colour, or whether somebody has money or is poor, everybody can get it.
“The community must take part in doing their best and protecting themselves and the spread of the pandemic.
“Always wash your hands regularly and have sanitisers, I’ve spoken to social development and health departments to bring sanitisers to these informal settlements,” he said.
