Dot van Eeden from Mulbarton is devastated and livid after vandalism caused at the “den” in La Rochelle.
A week ago, vandals broke into the den, corner of Forest and Victoria roads. Here Dot from the Alberton Lions Club had been doing boot sales for the past nine years, helping many people and never having had to cancel.
“They smashed everything. They turned the perfect fridge and freezer over and took the motors and smashed the basins to take the taps, leaving the water to gush out.

“They took all the cutlery and crockery, microwave – everything and left the den flooded and the ceiling collapsed. “All the boxes of books and clothes we wanted to give to Amcare were left scattered on the floor and are useless now.
“They took whatever they wanted and whatever is left they destroyed. This place was like an outing for some people.
“Everything is lost. This was part of my life. I have been with the Lions for 30 years and it truly feels as if a part of my life is just gone. I feel terrible,” explained Dot.
On a Saturday, Dot used to host a boot sale where people of the South would converge to sell or buy goods. She would charge R60 per stall.
