Eagles Youth Empowerment: Youngsters raise their hands to help

Their ultimate goal is to have a shelter where they can house and cook for people.

A group of youngsters came together to form Eagles Youth Empowerment Organisation in Turffontein to tackle social ills, gender-based violence, poverty and the empowerment of youth, among others.

This NPO, which is a year old, is led by 21-year-old Elihle Ramarumo.

She said her vision is to see a drug-free society which is filled with opportunities for the youth. She wants to help the community fight drugs, fight against gender-based violence, poverty, as well as helping the youth achieve their dreams as these are some of the big problems they face as a community.

“My community needs people like us to help them. As our mission states: Empower young people, fight against abuse, embrace and develop young talent and not forgetting education and skills development.

“We want to help our youth and show them the way. This cannot be done in isolation. We need the community to buy in on our mission. They must help us to do fund-raising and to do donations so that we can help those who cannot help themselves,” explained Elihle.

They have also started a soup kitchen where they give food and clothes to the homeless and less fortunate in the area. Their ultimate goal is to have a shelter where they can house and cook for people.

For more information or donations, Elihle can be contacted on 063 502 7648 or 067 226 5902.
