Alrode South pedestrian bridge remains unfixed

This comes after the bridge collapsed after it was hit by a truck on July 4.

After months of waiting, the pedestrian bridge at Angus Train Station in Alrode South, that is more than 40 years old, remains unfixed.

This comes after the bridge collapsed after it was hit by a truck on July 4.

As previously reported, the truck’s hydraulic system opened while it was in motion, which resulted in the truck hooking on to the bridge, causing the collapse.

The City’s Roads and Stormwater Department stated the bridge did not collapse as a result of structural defects or negligence from the City for not repairing the bridge.

Themba Gadebe, City of Ekurhuleni’s spokesperson, said: “We are waiting for the mid-year budget adjustment so we can request for funding to commence with the project. Nothing is allocated for this financial year 2020 or 2021.
“Our service providers are ready should we have any funding for this project.”
