GALLERY + VIDEO: Charity car show hosted in aid of less fortunate families

The Infinity Charm Foundation, which was established in the beginning of lockdown, brought together car enthusiasts in a challenge that aimed to collect canned food on November 1 in Ormonde.

Being their first big event, they aimed to collect over a million cans of food for charitable causes, including Chefs with Compassion. They collected 5 600 tins of food on Sunday.

While observing Covid-19 protocols, the car show gave visitors a fun-packed day with food stalls, stands, entertainment and gleaming vehicles. The show introduced various categories, including show and shine, and a sound competition with every entrant adding a can to the collection as part of their entry fee.

The NPO has delivered food and blankets to thousands of households across Johannesburg and Durban since the beginning of lockdown.

According to founder Nishaan Kishore, the idea behind the charity car show was initially inspired by 21-year-old Ryan Ellapan, who recently started his car crew.

The self-funded entity’s car show was held in collaboration with RP Studioz, Stay Cautious and Audio SP.

“Among many other beneficiaries, the bulk of cans will be donated to Chefs with Compassion. This is an NPO that has delivered over 1.1 million meals to over 40 organisations in Johannesburg,” said Kishore.

Kishore also said Lucky Star has offered to donate 250 000 tinned food products.

“Not only did the event uplift small entrepreneurs, it also afforded up-and-coming music artists an opportunity to entertain guests. We want to continue with this right up to December so that people have food for Christmas. Our sole purpose is to feed communities,” he said.

Through the occasion, the Randburg-based foundation will help cater for entities in areas such as Durban, Johannesburg, East Rand and the broader community.

“We’re going to donate to a number of beneficiaries, but we will be careful in carrying out those donations. With the guidance of South African chefs, we will serve food with a better light since many people have allergies,” he said.

Simoné Botha, Mrs Johannesburg 2020, graced guests with her presence and also commended the crew for hosting their charity event.

“I am thankful that there are so many people coming together to help the less fortunate. I’m honoured to be here to represent Joburg. I will be in contact with the foundation in case they need any assistance,” she said.
