Broken guard rail in Rosettenville a threat to pedestrians

Johannesburg residents deserve a safe and well-run City where officials fix important structures on time – Councillor Michael Crichton

Over a year ago a vehicle drove into a guard rail in Main Street, Rosettenville, close to the corner of Tramway Street, leaving it damaged and broken.

This was an immediate concern to the shop owners close to this intersection, as well as the pedestrians as they rely on these guard rails to protect them as this is a very busy intersection.

“As the ward councillor I decided to personally log this issue, seeing as no one was attending to it and received a reference number on February 4. I escalated this to the local JRA depot manager and have made monthly follow-ups since,” said Ward 56 councillor Michael Crichton.

“I was informed on August 18 that they are unable to fix the guard rails due to the JRA storerooms not having the poles and bolts required to fix the guard rails. This indicates that it is a City-wide problem.

“Johannesburg residents deserve a safe and well-run City where officials fix important structures on time. There can be no excuse for taking more than a year to get these basics rights.

“I will be escalating this issue to the MMC, and taking it up in the Section 79 Committee.”

JRA was contacted for comment on November 25, they have not responded.
