Kenilworth’s Masonwabe using his passion for music to inspire others

“Channel O recently played my music video and I’m so excited.” – Judge Maso.

If your dreams do not scare you, they are not big enough.

Take for instance Kenilworth’s Masonwabe “Judge Maso” Sibotho (22), who one day wants be a businessman and own a mall.

He is a former Orlando Pirates Academy midfielder. Judge Maso said after he injured his knee in 2014, he realised his playing days were numbered.

“I shifted from soccer to music. In 2015, I stared recording my music. In 2018 where I shot my first music video. I have been performing at different gigs,” he said.

In his own words, Judge Maso said he cannot be boxed in one genre of music.

“I am an artist, although that music video I shot was Afro-pop, I am a diverse person and I can do a lot of genres.
“Channel O recently played my music video and I’m so excited,” explained Judge Maso.

Reggae artist Lucky Dube, who lived in Rosettenville, is among the people who inspired Judge Maso.

“Our parents used to play his music and we would listened to him while doing our daily chores. The advent of hip-hop artists like KO and Casper Nyovest in 2013 made me believe I can do music in my own language,” noted Judge Maso.

He said he has lots of ideas, especially those that will benefit his community.

“There are not many idols in this community to whom young people can look up to. With us trying to be a positive image, we want to be good individuals and lead by example.

“So campaigns like raising funds for sanitary towels for girls, taking children off the streets and many others are possible with the youth at the helm.

“We need support from all walks of life so that we can realise our dreams. I urge people of the South to rally behind us and also download my song on all music platforms.”
