WATCH: Service delivery in Region F spruced up

The 120 Days Accelerated Service Delivery programme aims to improve the quality of delivery of basic services in mostly underdeveloped areas.

The City of Johannesburg’s Region F has started with the 120 Days Accelerated Service Delivery programme, which aims for a return to basics and tougher by-law enforcement.

The programme was launched by mayor Geoff Makhubo on April 13 in Ivory Park, Midrand, in Region A.

The programme aims to improve the quality of delivery of basic services in mostly underdeveloped areas.

City entities such as JRA, City Power, Pikitup, City Parks and every department that is at the forefront of service delivery in the City are deployed to ensure integrated service delivery at the ward level, at the block level and the street level in the City of Joburg for the betterment of the communities.

City Power disconnected properties that were found to have illegal electricity connections.

This week’s programme is focusing on Ward 124 and Ward 55, Turffontein and West Turffontein. JRA undertook road markings in Hay, Turf Club, Stanton, De Villiers, Park and Ferreira and Bishop streets. Joburg Water replaced missing manhole covers in several streets and fixed three burst water pipes and missing water meters on several properties.

City Power disconnected six properties that were found to have illegal electricity connections and repaired street lights.

JMPD, City Parks and Environmental Health inspected six food premises and issued six statutory notices. Pikitup and Emergency Management Services inspected 11 properties and issued notices for non-compliance.

Outreach programmes, including education and awareness, were conducted by Citizen Relationship and Urban Management and Pikitup.

Region F acting regional director Roger Ganhes said, “The 120 days is a mayoral programme to coordinate integrated and multi-disciplinary service delivery operations for more effectiveness and impact at ground level.

“The focus areas of the programme will include Turffontein, West Turffontein, Inner City core and Hillbrow.

Ward 124 is a mayoral priority ward. We appeal to the community to work with us as we heed the call to fast track service delivery issues that are prevalent in particular wards.”

The recently passed medium-term budget paves the way for the City to fast track service delivery issues affecting the residents of Joburg.
