MTN and Orlando Pirates donate food parcels
Goals for charity project grows in support.
MTN, with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and the reigning 2020 MTN8 champions Orlando Pirates, who is based at the Rand Stadium, visited Ikageng to donate food packages worth R80 000.
Ikageng Itireleng, which means “help them help themselves”, is an organisation dedicated to helping vulnerable children and those orphaned by HIV and Aids.
The organisation was founded in 2001 by Mom Carol Dyantyi, who through her work as a home-based care provider in Soweto, saw an increasing number of children left to fend for themselves and knew she had to intervene and provide an environment where children can thrive and be the best they can be, irrespective of their backgrounds.
Previously the MTN8 Goals for Charity initiative banked R10 000 for each goal scored within the regulation time during the tournament, however, to help ease the financial burden created by the Covid-19 pandemic, the money was raised to R20 000 during the 2020/21 MTN8 tournament.
This was in line with MTN’s #Remake2020 brand campaign, to give meaningful and memorable experiences during a difficult period.
Nomsa Mazibuko, brand and communications general manager at MTN SA said, “The Goals for Charity initiative has become an integral part of the MTN8 tournament and has enabled us to connect with different organisations within our communities to offer meaningful support using our sponsorship properties.
“Children are the future leaders of tomorrow and we at MTN believe that each child, regardless of their background, deserves a good foundation to kickstart their future.
“The Ikageng organisation provides the less fortunate children within the community access to basic psychosocial, nutritional, sport, and educational support, which will help shape their future. We are proud to be able to aid Mom Carol to continue her passion of caring and providing for the future leaders that are less fortunate”.

Our beneficiaries rely on such support from corporates like MTN, where we can help sustain them with nutritional food provided here today,” said Dyantyi.
The funds raised from the Goals for Charity initiative during the 2020/21 MTN8 tournament, amounted to R420 000 from the 21 goals scored within regulation time.
MTN added R80 000 to the kitty as part of #REMAKE2020, making the total sum donated to charity R500 000.
The funds were shared among the six MTN regions, benefitting seven charities, to further demonstrate MTN’s commitment to the communities the MTN8 tournament touches.
