Belated Mandela Day celebrated in La Rochelle
Fifty people received soup and blankets from Shoprite.
A belated Mandela Day was held in La Rochelle on July 30.
The proceedings started in the morning at the My Lillies of Hope, where the Shoprite franchise donated soup and blankets to 50 people who were in need.
They limited the numbers to only 50 people in order to be compliant with the level four lockdown regulations.
Present was Shoprite regional manager Trudy Duwn, Kenilworth Shoprite branch manager Timothy Ledwaba, Shoprite regional promotions manager Muizz Silliman, Shoprite public relations officer Dikeledi Sripe, local community leader Xoliswa Mfaxa and Ward 56 councillor Michael Crichton.

Later in the day Ebrahim Gemebo from Robot Wholesalers donated food parcels to 70 people who volunteered to protect the shops in La Rochelle when mass looting took place across Gauteng.
Crichton said, “I am pleased the community of La Rochelle got together to celebrate Mandela Day. During these trying times and recent looting, we need to evoke a sense of ubuntu and togetherness among our communities.”
