Bike club assists Alberton SPCA

Alberton SPCA manager Charmain Southon thanked the group and said every bit of donation helps, especially since they are going into the busiest time of the year.

Bikers from Monarchs, a bike club, handed over a donation to Alberton SPCA on December 11.

The donation was made possible with bike clubs Macs and Wild Bunch, who also came on board to lend a helping hand.

The handover follows the club’s recent charity drive hosted at the Alberton Tennis Club.

Alberton SPCA gladly received dog food, puppy food, cat food and canned food for the entity’s furry friends.

Michelle Aitken of Monarchs said they are a bike club that has a majority of Alberton-based bikers that host charity drives annually.

“This year we decided that during this time of the pandemic and with the increasing amount abandoned and surrendered animals, we would take the charity that we collected and split it between animals and humans. We find that it’s better to split the charity among a couple of places than to just give to one place so that everybody benefits,” she said.

Monarchs that showed up on the day.

With the pandemic, she said it’s not only humans who are adversely affected but furry friends too.

“We raise funds throughout the year to get as much money we can for charity. We want to thank all Alberton bike clubs who helped in making our recent charity a success,” said Aitken.
