Business premises petrol bombed

Only two of the 14 petrol bombs didn't go off.

A total of 14 petrol bombs in three days have been thrown into business premises in Glenesk. The first nine were thrown on December 30 and the rest during the early hours of January 2, only two didn’t go off.

The owner of the panel-beating company, Wayne Mosavel, said he doesn’t know why there have been so many petrol bombs attacks on his premises.

“My company is adjacent to an open field and at first there were just bottles thrown at my premises and we thought it wasn’t that malicious, just people who pass by. However, it turned ugly when petrol bombs were thrown in.

“Johnny Soudom who lives in the premises informed me of the incident. He called me and said there were people who petrol bombed our main entrance to the building. Our security company and police were called to the scene, however, they couldn’t catch the culprits,” explained Mosavel.

He said he couldn’t come to the scene the first time because of the curfew, but since the second attack, he sleeps on the premises.

“I had to forgo the comfort of my home and sleep here to safeguard what I’ve worked for 16 years, especially the second time where they petrol bombed a car that I was busy with. I thought it would be better to sleep at the premises.

“I also want to thank Moffat View SAPS for their efficient response. They were very helpful, calling the forensic and fire department to attend the scene. Since this happened my family and I are trying to figure out who is behind these attacks, and every time we gather our thoughts, we cannot come up with the answer,” noted Mosavel.
In both incidents, cases have been opened at Moffat View SAPS.

“I can confirm that the business premises was petrol bombed and the police are investigating the case of malicious property damage,” said Sgt Solly Matjila.
