Making South of Joburg beautiful

Spring day clean-up

Volunteers from The Glen Shopping Centre, Howden Africa, Group1 Nissan, Rotary Johannesburg South 101 and SOJO Business and Tourism in collaboration with City of Joburg Departments and ward councillors worked together on September 1 to clean up the Glenvista Precinct.

The focus area was The Glen Shopping Centre and its surroundings, from Vorster/Lois traffic circle to Letaba/Orpen traffic circle.

Tandi Potgieter said the cleanup brings volunteers together to clean, repair, and improve public spaces or other areas.

CEO of SOJO, Nicky Vakaloudis said SOJO aims to uplift facilities and establish opportunities in the South of Johannesburg, therefore SOJO Business & Tourism teamed up with The Glen shopping centre to maintain a clean environment.

One of the volunteers, Tibello Mantsoe said, “A community cleanup provides some of the most tangible rewards. The results are immediately visible. People even stop to thank you while you’re still working.”

After cleaning up, a braai was held for volunteers.

Noticing that litter is a problem is the first step in taking action to create a cleaner, more sustainable planet. The next step is taking action. Partner with community members and local organisations to get involved and create meaningful change.
