On the morning of February 12, 2012 a Brackenhurst family woke up to find their dog killed and a number of their belongings stolen.
The case was handed to Alberton SAPS’s Sergeant Phelisa Roto to investigate.
Recalling the events, Roto said: “The house owner told us that he saw a shadow just after midnight but was too scared to investigate. When they woke up they not only found a number of their belongings stolen but also that their family dog was killed.”
Roto told the Alberton Record that the suspect was linked to this specific case by his fingerprints found on the scene.
“We sent the fingerprints to the lab and all necessary measures were taken to identify the culprit,” Roto explained.
Roto said that the transgressor, who has previous and pending cases against him, was arrested for house break-in and theft.
After a long hunt for the culprit, he was finally caught and sentenced to 15 years in prison at the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court.
