Alberton CBD bus terminus threatens locals’ safety
The City of Ekurhuleni promised to demolish the Alberton CBD bus terminus on June 3, 2022, but to date the building has not yet been wiped out.
Delayed demolishing of the Alberton CBD bus terminus has raised concerns for Alberton residents as the place keeps on posing a danger for residents living around the premises.
The City of Ekurhuleni Mayor Tania Campbell, MMC of Transport Planning Alco Ngobese, and other authorities paid a site visit to the abandoned bus depot in Alberton on June 3, 2022.
The visit was a component of Campbell’s back-to-basics strategy for providing services. The site visit also focused on monitoring the city’s infrastructure.
Despite the City of Ekurhuleni’s vow to have it demolished by the end of June of that year, the building has not yet been levelled.
According to a resident, who wishes to remain anonymous, after she heard that the building was going to be demolished, she was excited as the place was allegedly sheltering individuals who posed a threat to her safety. She travelles during the early hours of the morning and late hours of the night.
“It is widely known that Alberton has not been in a great state ever since the December holidays, however, the bus terminus situation has been an ongoing issue for a long time and the city keeps on giving us false hope that the issue will be resolved,” said the person.
The facility was originally intended to house a licencing drive-through to relieve the Alrode Licensing Department of its workload.
