Wrestlers bag 24 medals
At least 31 wrestler entries from Alberton Wrestling Club recently competed at the Central Gauteng Open Wrestling Championship in Brixton.
Thirty-one wrestlers from Alberton Wrestling Club competed at the Central Gauteng Open Wrestling Championship at the Brixton Multi-Purpose Hall on June 3.
All the wrestlers did exceptionally well and the wrestlers bagged a number of medals in their different categories.
This is an AA tournament, used as a qualifying event for provincial colours.
About 322 wrestlers entered the tournament from across Gauteng, Free State, Mpumalanga, Limpopo and North West.
Securing gold medals were Rylan Griezel, Dietrich Brauns, Katrien and Christian Havenga, Shaun de Kock, and Gunner Hodge.
Mioni van Baalen and Nico Potgieter bagged two gold medals each.
They were joined by Daniel Tichy, Arrie Warrie van Wyk, Wian Hamer, Danie Erasmus, Arico Fourie as well as Shaun de Kock, who won silver medals.
Coming home with bronze medals were Pieta Labuschagne, Danie Erasmus, Katrien Havenga, Jaden Holland, Arico Fourie, Shilo van Wyk together with Jeandre Watson who bagged two bronze medals. In fourth place were Wian Jansen van Rensburg and Bokkie Bokhorst.
