Get ready for the Trashion Show at Klipriversberg Nature Reserve

Get ready to witness the magic of the Trashion Show at Klipriversberg Nature Reserve, as learners turn trash into treasure and take a powerful step towards a greener, more sustainable future.

Calling all south of Johannesburg schools to participate in the Trashion Show.

Schools of the south are in for an exciting celebration of Arbor Day at the picturesque Klipriversberg Nature Reserve on September 2.

The event promises a day filled with fun activities, but the highlight of the day is undoubtedly the unique and innovative Trashion Show. But what exactly is a ‘Trashion Show’? It’s a fashion show with a twist, where the outfits must be designed and created by school learners using nothing but trash and recycled materials.

The rule is clear: no purchases are allowed. Instead, participants are encouraged to unleash their creativity and resourcefulness, utilizing glue, staples, sewing materials, and any discarded items that would otherwise find their way to landfills.

The use of recycled materials will play a vital role in the judging criteria, underscoring the importance of environmental consciousness and sustainable practices.

Beyond the glitz and glamour of the runway, the true goal of the ‘Trashion Show’ is to inspire young minds to think outside the box, raise awareness about pressing environmental issues, and highlight the significance of recycling and waste reduction.

Schools of the south will have a chance to showcase their teamwork and creativity as they collaborate on banners made from trash to promote their school’s name. Additionally, each participating school will be tasked with crafting a song that emphasizes the value of caring for the environment, adding a melodic touch to the show.

The competition will feature two categories, one for primary school learners and another for high school learners.
The judging process will consider the collective efforts of each school, as well as the individual learner’s ingenuity in crafting their ‘trashion’ ensembles.

Participants are encouraged to think beyond the conventional and transform everyday trash into runway-worthy creations that not only surprise and delight but also convey a powerful message about sustainable living and environmental stewardship.

The event promises to be both educational and entertaining, with exciting prizes up for grabs and the opportunity to contribute to a greener future. Winners will not only take home well-deserved accolades but will also have trees planted on behalf of their schools, leaving a beautiful legacy for future generations within the nature reserve.

Adding to the festivities, there will be puppet shows, interpretive walks, and a variety of engaging activities to keep everyone enthralled. Food & Trees For Africa has generously donated hundred (100) trees. Six (6) trees will be planted at Klipriversberg Nature Reserve as prizes and the balance of trees donated will be distributed to the schools of the south.

By investing in the community and promoting environmental consciousness, they are fostering a legacy of sustainability and a better future for all.
