Social grant beneficiaries in Alberton and Joburg south who are still using SASSA gold cards have less than a week to migrate to the new black Postbank cards before the August 31 deadline.

Postbank is making a final appeal to beneficiaries who have not yet completed the migration process, warning that the deadline will not be extended.

About 14 000 beneficiaries in Gauteng are among fewer than 80 000 beneficiaries nationally who still need to complete the migration.

Postbank said more than 1.8 million beneficiaries have successfully migrated to black cards since the process began in 2025.

Beneficiaries who have not yet migrated are urged to visit their nearest card replacement site as soon as possible.

What happens if you miss the deadline?

Postbank said beneficiaries who do not migrate by August 31 will still receive their grant payments into their accounts.

However, they will not be able to access the funds until they have completed the migration and received a black card.

Postbank said most card replacement sites will remain open for a period after the deadline to assist beneficiaries who miss the cut-off.

Beneficiaries are nevertheless encouraged to migrate before the deadline to avoid delays and inconvenience when accessing their money.

Where can beneficiaries migrate?

The migration can be completed at Postbank card replacement sites located inside selected:

• Shoprite stores

• Checkers stores

• Usave stores

• Pick n Pay stores

• Boxer stores

• Spar stores

Beneficiaries can dial *120*355# from any cellphone to find their nearest card migration site.

The process is free of charge and beneficiaries only need a valid ID or temporary ID.

They do not need to visit a SASSA office, complete forms or migrate in the province where their grant was originally approved.

Postbank said beneficiaries can collect their black cards from any province.

What happens to money on the gold card?

Beneficiaries do not need to withdraw their existing balance before migrating.

Postbank said any funds in the beneficiary’s account will automatically be transferred to the black card and become accessible once the new card is issued.

The black card will take effect immediately upon issuance.

Postbank Chief Commercial Officer Thami Cele urged beneficiaries who have not yet migrated to act before the deadline.

“We understand that grant payments are an important source of livelihood for many families,” Cele said.
