Local cyclists have good results at Race of Dreams
The 20224 Emperors Palace Road Classic held recently had many cycling enthusiasts entering the race. The Race of Dreams participants could either test their metal over 98km or ride a shorter 48km route.

Xander Erasmus of Centurion, Matthew Horne of Alberton and Stiaan Landsberg of Witbank were among the cyclists who excelled in the 98km race.
The trio competed in the junior men’s category with Horne taking top honours in this division in 2:10:48, followed home by Erasmus in second and Landsberg third in a photo finish time of 2:10:49.
Alberton cycling enthusiasts Steven Holm, Ettiene Luus and Johan van Rooyen also took on the 98km race and finished in 2:23:42, 02:30:13 and 2:19:35 respectively.
Glenvista resident Jamie Holdsworth also opted for the testing 98km route through the streets of Ekurhuleni. finishing in 2:28:13.
Bassonia resident Jorge Faria was among the cyclists who excelled in the 98km race. Faria competed in the vets 60+ category and took top honours in this division in 2:21:44.
Finishing second was Chris Verheem of Strubens Valley in 2:26:39 with Midvaal resident Roberto Gnudi third in 2:26:40.
Alberton’s Johan van Rooyen was one of the star performers. Van Rooyen won the 98km men’s vets 40+ category in a time of 2:19:35, with Paul Newman of Sandton crossing the line in 2:19:36 to finish second and Johann Kruger of Klerksdorp third, also in 2:19:36.
