Help to save lives by being part of the 1 Day – 1 Nation – 5 000 Units of Blood campaign on April 13 from 09:00 to 16:00.

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) will hold its inaugural 1 Day – 1 Nation – 5 000 Units of Blood campaign on April 13 to collect 5 000 units of blood.

SANB would like to see all South Africans who are eligible to donate blood will support this day. According to Thandi Mosupye, senior manager for marketing, communication, and brand for the SANBS, the blood services predict blood shortages in the run-up to winter.

Blood stock levels tend to drop during the Easter and school holidays as donors go to various holiday destinations. Donating blood, therefore, may not always be a high priority, she warned.

“Right now, we need all the help we can get – from current and potential donors. Moreover, we ask South Africans to become regular donors. By donating blood regularly, we can easily maintain safe stock levels throughout the year,” says Mosupye.

Interested individuals from Alberton and Joburg south can join the SANBS at Southgate Mall.

If you are between 16 and 75, weigh 50kg or more, are in good general health, and consider your blood safe to transfuse to a patient, you should be able to donate.
