The quick-thinking security team prevented a disaster during an attempted cash-in-transit heist.

A security team foiled a daring attempted cash-in-transit heist on January 7 in Booysens.

According to reports, there was a shootout between the robbers and the security personnel escorting the G4S cash van on Reserve Road.

The criminals set two getaway vehicles ablaze when trying to flee the scene. However, the cash van’s driver made it safely to the G4S base thanks to the security team’s swift action.

There were no injuries reported.

The Gauteng SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Noxolo Kweza, confirmed the incident, “I can confirm that the Gauteng police are investigating two cases of attempted murder together with a charge of an attempted cash-in-transit heist following an incident that took place in Booysens on Reserve Road. The cash van managed to escape thanks to their security personnel’s efforts.”

The police are investigating the incident, and no arrests have been made. The security team’s bravery and quick thinking undoubtedly prevented a potentially disastrous outcome.
