M1 North partially closed after shootout between suspects and JMPD
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes as reports indicate that traffic on the M1 North is heavy.
JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla has confirmed that there’s been a shooting incident on M1 north between Booysens Road and the Crown Interchange.
M1 North is partially closed due to the crime scene.
The shootout was between suspects and JMPD Freeway Unit.
It is alleged that they stopped an Iveco with 20 occupants, who then shot at the officers. One suspect was fatally shot and two firearms were recovered.
It’s believed that they may have been planning a robbery.
