Suspects caught red-handed stealing optical fibre in Gillview

Officers on patrol along Rifle Range and Side roads noticed a suspicious-looking male standing outside a white Renault Kwid.

According to JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla officers approached the vehicle to investigate what was going on, and discovered five males hiding behind the vehicle, as well as optical fibre laying on the ground.

“Two males fled the scene immediately but the officers apprehended three other suspects. The suspects were searched, and one of them was found to be in possession of an air gun. They also searched the vehicle and found digging tools, a steel saw, and two spare saw blades. The suspects were apprehended at the Booysens SAPS station, where a docket was opened for further investigation. The vehicle used in the crime was seized and booked at the SAPS Aeroton pound,” Fihla said.
