WATCH: Scholar transport driver shot dead outside South Hills school
Pupils on board the school transport were physically unharmed but deeply shaken by the tragic shooting incident.
Moffat View police are investigating a murder case following a suspected gang-related fatal shooting of a man outside Suidheuwels Primary School in South Hills on Monday.
The victim, a scholar transport driver, was killed while pupils were on board. The pupils are now receiving counselling at the school to help them cope with the trauma.
Moffat View SAPS station commander Colonel Shunny Govender confirmed that the shooting appears to be gang-related. A murder case has been opened, but no arrests have been made yet.
Forensic teams are currently processing the scene, with the victim’s body still inside the vehicle. The deceased’s family arrived at the scene and is awaiting the removal of the body.
Ward 57 Councillor Faeeza Chame, accompanied by Councillor Rashieda Landis, said that this is not an isolated incident. Just this past Saturday, two people were shot dead near Montanus Primary School.
