The Hill cash-in-transit heist gang case postponed
The matter involving 11 convicted accused will return to the Gauteng High Court on July 7 for presentencing proceedings.
Eleven members of The Hill cash-in-transit heist gang, who are already convicted, briefly appeared at the Gauteng High Court on May 25.
The case was postponed to July 7 for presentencing.
Ten accused, Sihle Mazibuko, Menziwe Shabalala, Qaphelani Ngubeni, Kitso Mnguni, Hloniphani Mnguni, Phendulani Mnguni, Mike Ngwadi, Andrew Thobolo, Khulekani Nkosi and Alex Motjebele, were convicted of murder, attempted murder, unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition, possession of explosives and conspiracy to commit robbery with aggravating circumstances.
The 11th accused, Sandile Gasa, was found guilty of unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition.
The deadly shootout happened mainly at the corner of Frairs Hill and Gotthard roads, The Hill, on February 21, 2022. Eight suspected cash-in-transit heist robbers were shot dead.
Those involved were part of a group of criminals from KwaZulu-Natal, Botswana and Zimbabwe.
The then Minister of Police, Bheki Cele, said on that day: “The suspects killed today were hard-core criminals and had been under police surveillance since last week and were involved in cash-in-transit heist robberies in Dawn Park and other areas.”
