Daniel Rowland murder trial postponed to November in Booysens Magistrate's Court
A missing transcript and a late legal representative have caused further delays in the trial of a man accused of a fatal restaurant shooting.
The murder trial of Daniel Rowland, accused of a fatal 2021 shooting at the Il Camino restaurant in Mulbarton, was postponed to November 6 in the Booysens Magistrate’s Court.
Booysens Magistrate Habib questioned whether the defence had taken all necessary steps to secure previous court transcripts following delays in obtaining the records.
The matter was originally set to proceed on September 6, but faced delays when defence representative Advocate Mayet arrived late.
The court stood the matter down to allow time for the attorney to arrive.
When proceedings resumed, Mayet appeared on record instead of Advocate Meiring.
The defence requires witness statements from court records to be recounted and confirmed for its case.
Habib then requested reasons for the failure to secure the transcripts.
The defence explained that the transcripts were requested, but Rowland still needs to pay for them.
Mayet was ordered to obtain the transcripts before the next appearance in almost two months.
The case was postponed to November 6 to allow time to secure the transcripts and ensure both defence attorneys are present.
Magistrate Habib lifted Rowlands ‘ bail conditions, which had been in place for almost five years, on February 5.
