Two suspects were arrested in Johannesburg CBD after three civilians were injured in a collision during the exchange of gunfire.
Three suspected cash-in-transit (CIT) robbers have been shot and killed during a shootout with police on the N12 near Mondeor.
Gauteng police spokesperson Colonel Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said the incident happened on the afternoon of October 9, after law enforcement officers followed up on crime intelligence about a group of suspects allegedly planning to commit a robbery in Roodepoort.
According to Nevhuhulwi, the team was tracking two vehicles linked to the suspected robbery when officers spotted a white Mercedes-Benz on Kliprivier Road.
Police attempted to stop the vehicle as it approached traffic lights, but the suspects allegedly opened fire on officers, who retaliated.
During the exchange of gunfire, the Mercedes-Benz lost control and collided with two civilian vehicles on the N12.
